TOMMY LEE Hopes Grammys Go Better For MÖTLEY CRÜE This Time
February 6, 2009MÖTLEY CRÜE will compete for the second time in their career for a Grammy Award on Sunday (February 8),with the song "Saints of Los Angeles" up for "Best Hard Rock Performance". Drummer Tommy Lee told The Pulse of Radio that he hopes things go better this time than they did in 1989, when the CRÜE was up for the very first Grammy ever given for "Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Performance": "I remember sitting there, and it was us, METALLICA, and JETHRO TULL," he said. "And we're friends with the guys in METALLICA, we're all sitting together in the same row, right? And they're like, 'The winner is...' and we're looking at each other like, 'One of us is walking out of here with this thing.' And they go, 'JETHRO TULL.' We're like, 'WHAT?' It was the most bizarre, most awkward time I've ever experienced. That just makes me think, with the Grammys, who knows, anything can happen, man. It's just so bizarre over there."
MÖTLEY CRÜE is competing this year against DISTURBED, JUDAS PRIEST, THE MARS VOLTA and ROB ZOMBIE.
The Grammys begin at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday night, broadcasting live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on CBS.
MÖTLEY CRÜE is currently on a North American arena tour that pulls into Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday (February 6 and 7) as the band continues to promote its 2008 album "Saints Of Los Angeles".
